Carbon removal project developer Chestnut Carbon Arkansas said Thursday that Arkansas led six southeastern U.S. states with the highest number of forest restoration projects, highest state-level economic impact and highest job creation, with 31 projects generating $23.2 million in economic output and creating 455 jobs between 2022 and 2025.

Chestnut Carbon just completed its fourth planting season for forest restoration projects. The company reportedly doubled its footprint in the southeast United States to nearly 70,000 acres of restored forests, the company's largest planting effort drive to date and one of the largest in the U.S. in 2025, the company said in a news release.
